Me too! I think I do actually find the word experimentation quite useful: the attempt at getting to a 'certain something' that you try out via different routes, editing out, starting over, repositioning yourself. Does the controversy in this word lie in the expectation of a result? Maria
Reconsidering the definition I posted earlier (in the blogline from the email exchange) I think that the issue of 'gaining knowledge about the physical world' which experimentation supposedly leads to is quite a way off. But I do think we have goals as artists - that we are reaching towards something that we can recognise in some way - nameable or not.
